Things are looking up for the Hilton Head Heritage Golf Tournament to be held in April. Here is a blurb from the Island Packet...

"About 60 volunteers set out in November to solicit $100,000 in local sponsorships for the Verizon Heritage, Hilton Head Island's PGA Tour event.

The volunteers found progress slow at first, but the effort picked up steam in January and achieved its goal last week, organizer Jack Wilson said.

Wilson, a career consultant, organized the Sponsor Partnership Club after Verizon announced last year it will not return as the tournament's title sponsor in 2011.

He hopes the club's success will show potential new title sponsors the community wants to keep its signature sporting event, which has raised about $20 million for area charities since 1987.

"This proves -- at least to that extent -- there is a groundswell of support within the community," Wilson said. "We're behind this."

This year's event will be played April 15-18 at Harbour Town Golf Links." (Island Packet)
